Obituary of Mary Barbara Jankowski

Jankowski, Mary Barbara (Lakemann), 85, of St. Petersburg, passed away on Good Friday, March 29, 2024 at Bayfront Medical Center in the Palliative Care Unit. 

Mary was born in Queens, New York on February 24, 1939 and moved to Staten Island, New York as a child. She graduated from St. Joseph Hill High School and earned an associate degree in psychology from Staten Island Community College.  She moved to St. Petersburg, Florida in 1978.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary (Neenan) Lakemann; and her husband, Donald Peter Jankowski. She is survived by her children, Donald Jankowski, Patricia Jankowski, and Chris Jankowski; her sisters Terry Grecsek and Judy Walsh; her grandchildren Maria Shaw, Donnie Jankowski, Erica Jankowski, and Anthony Jankowski; and her great-granddaughter, Violet Shaw.

Mary lived for her family, loved her friends as family, and adored animals. She was best known as a spiritual teacher of A Course in Miracles and is the author of “A Path to Peace,” a complement to the Course. Mary spent four decades sharing her knowledge and experience with the Course and enriched many lives with her guidance. She taught us how to think about life and how to be kinder to ourselves and others. She loved Jesus, and she taught us how to laugh and love through everything life serves us, good and bad.

Mary’s memorial service will be on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 11:00 am at First Unity, 460 46th Ave North in St Petersburg.
