Grief Support
Anderson-McQueen's professional care does not end with the funeral ceremony. We realize that often the hardest times follow the funeral once family and friends have returned to their normal activities. Therefore, we developed our Continuing Care Program which is offered free of charge to anyone in our area who has suffered a loss. Carole McLeod is our Continuing Care Coordinator. Our Program includes the following services:
The Comfort Circle
This bereavement support group offers a series of six classes to help you understand and deal with your grief. You can talk about your feelings, hopes and loss within the comfort and safety of people who understand. It was developed to assist the person who has experienced a death of a family member or friend to grow and form new relationships without their loved one. The classes are facilitated by Mrs. McLeod and have both weekly afternoon or evening sessions. Anderson-McQueen is the only funeral home in Pinellas County which offers such a bereavement support group.
Holiday Memorials and Seminars
The holiday season can be a particularly difficult time for those who have recently experienced a death. Accordingly, Anderson-McQueen offers two programs that can assist you in coping with the holidays.
Families are encouraged to come & place an angel ornament on our Tree of Memories typically the first Sunday of December. They are encouraged to write a message on the ornament which is then placed on the trees and displayed during the holiday season. After the holidays, the ornaments are laminated and returned to the family as a permanent keepsake memorial for future holidays.
In November of each year, the Comfort Circle offers a special seminar entitled Joy and Sadness of the Holiday Season. It is especially designed for those individuals who are about to experience their first holiday season without their loved one. We talk about making decisions on how, what, when, and where you might want to spend your holiday. The video A Ray of Hope is shown and each participant is given the booklet Tinsel & Tears.
Annual Community Seminar
Anderson-McQueen realizes the profound effect that death has on various members of our professional community. Each year, we offer a stimulating workshop seminar for clergy, counselors, therapists, social workers, hospice personnel, nurses, law enforcement, EMT's, paramedics and any caregivers who work with people experiencing grief and bereavement. The seminar is accredited for Continuing Education credits and has been widely acclaimed by community professionals for its good content and practical application.
Lending Library
We maintain a library of grief resource materials for use by the public. Our library includes well over 100 books, videotapes, audiotapes and brochures all authored or produced by nationally recognized authorities. Topics include general grief & bereavement, loss of a parent, death of a child, children & death, grief in the workplace, terminal illnesses, sudden & traumatic death, AIDS related deaths, suicide & homicide, and a section for professionals dealing with death as caregivers.
